I am in my eighth year of teaching kindergarten at Crossroads Charter Academy. I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University, majoring in Child Development and minoring in mathematics and reading. I earned my Master's Degree from Ferris State University in Curriculum & Instruction. I love to read, cook, and spend time with family and friends. Teaching is an amazing job in that I get to grow and learn along with my students. I feel honored to be part of such a wonderful team (family really) of educators working to create enriching, meaningful learning experiences for their students. I could't imagine myself doing anything else!

Our March is Reading Month theme is fiesta this year so we are spicing things up for the month! Here is a picture of the bulletin board outside of the classroom. We are showcasing the book Chicks & Salsa!

We will be having many incentives during the month to encourage reading!

§    Whitecaps Baseball Reading Club Ticket
Your child can earn two free tickets to a Whitecaps baseball game in the spring! For every 15 minutes read, parents need to initial a baseball spot on the ticket. This ticket can stay at home or be kept in your child’s Here and There Folder until completed and then it needs to be returned to me. I will send tickets home as soon as we get them.

§    How many books can you read?
I would also like you to keep their book log sheets in their folders this month because for every five books they read, they will get to add a chili pepper above their fiesta boy or girl. If you fill up all the spaces on the front of the book log, you may continue logging books read on the back of the sheet or on an additional piece of paper. I will cross the books off as I count them.

So….since there are so many different reading incentives going on, you may count books for all three of them! For example, one book can be written down on the book log, counted as part of the 15 minutes read for the Whitecaps Baseball Reading, and will count towards the five books read to add a chili pepper above your child’s fiesta boy or girl. Please support and encourage your child to take part in these great reading incentives!

  1. Love your chicks! Way to go, Kindergarteners! Our March is Reading Month theme is fiesta, too! Thanks, Scholastic :) Was wondering if you might have your chick pattern, complete with sombrero and salsa, that you might be willing and able to share :)

  2. Thanks Kaitlin! I would be more than happy to share with you! Shoot me an email as a reminder so I have an address to send the templates to. I think I can copy them on our copy machine and it will send the pdf to me so I can then forward it to you. :)
